CLARIFICATION STATEMENT REGARDING PROPOSED CELL TOWER
The St. Paul Boulevard Fire Department is comprised of the St. Paul Boulevard Fire Association AND the St. Paul Boulevard Fire District. While these two factions sound very similar, they are individually different in what they each provide to the public. They work hand in hand as the St. Paul Boulevard Fire Department to provide, what we think, is the best fire protection service in Monroe County.
The Association provides the volunteer manpower to the St. Paul Boulevard Fire District. The Association survives on fund drive donations only. These donations pay for some training, community services, purchasing the smaller fire vehicles, and other incidentals.
The District is the tax levying body that is responsible for all decisions regarding the two fire houses, the large fire vehicles, and the 17 member career firefighter staff. The District is run by a five person commission of publicly elected officials.
The recent proposal to erect a taller cell tower at the Cooper Road firehouse is strictly a District decision. As an organization, theSt Paul Boulevard Fire Associationneither supports nor condemns the cell tower proposal.
